Duties and Responsibilities:
When we think of a psychiatrist people often times confuse a psychiatrist with a psychologist. Both are quite similar yet different. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who professions in the mental health field. They help patients from their problems by helping them out through certain treatments. A person who seeks for psychiatric help, may feel really suicidal, anxious, or depressed. Other times, patients hallucinate, hear voices, or feel like life's way too out of control. These people aren’t in the right mental state, so they need psychiatric help to move on. A psychiatrist will help a person by doing tests on them. These test vary by person. In some cases, their problems are usual, and other times, more severe. However, there will always be treatment. They perform many kinds of psychotherapy as well to help them move on.
Salary: $184,265
Education: A degree is always required as well as a 4 year training experience. A Bachelor’s Degree is needed to first join the field of mental health. Courses that are important are such as Biology, Chemistry, and Math. Then a person must pursue a medical degree. What’s next is to complete a residency, and then get a license. Then the person can get the job.
Reflection:
Honestly I would want to become a psychiatrist to help those people that suffer. I would want them to feel happy and enjoy life. It is sad because what holds them down is their own sick mentality and I want to help someone one day.
